Documenting the Land

Here we are documenting the story of Platypus Bend – the land, Charley’s Creek, the trees, the animals and birds, even the soil and fungi. It is about their consequence for our lives, and our impact on them. The title for this blog-site has been borrowed from one of the lines of ‘Feeling Good’ written by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley. The song was first performed in public by Guyanese-British actor Cy Grant in 1964 on the opening night of The Roar of the Greasepaint. The first cover-version was by US jazz saxophonist John Coltrane on his 1965 album The John Coltrane Quartet Plays. Nina Simone recorded the song for her 1965 album I Put a Spell on You.

Birds flying high, you know how I feel

Sun in the sky, you know how I feel

Breeze driftin’ on by, you know how I feel

It’s a new dawn

It’s a new day

It’s a new life for me, ooh

And I’m feeling good

Fish in the sea, you know how I feel

River running free, you know how I feel

Blossom on the tree, you know how I feel

Dragonfly out in the sun you know what I mean, don’t you know?

Butterflies all havin’ fun, you know what I mean

Sleep in peace when day is done, that’s what I mean

And this old world, is a new world

And a bold world for me
